Sugarcane, paperboard or plant-based bioplastic
Made from reclaimed and rapidly renewable sugarcane pulp — a by-product remaining after the juice has been extracted that would otherwise be burned — our range of sugarcane containers includes clam shells, square containers, rectangle containers, octagonal containers, round containers, bowls and sauce cups with lids.
Our sustainably-sourced paperboard range includes bowls with lids, chip cups, boxes and trays, noodle boxes, lunch boxes and sandwich wedges.

Biodegradable Takeaway Container FAQs
How long do the biodegradable containers take to break down?
Our containers, including BioPak, are industrially certified as compostable to the Australian AS4736 standard. This means the BioCane, BioPlastic and Paper board are all broken down within 12 weeks into nutrients that can be returned back to soil.
What are the disposable food storage containers made of?
Our range of disposable food containers is made from either BioPlastic, BioCane or Paper Board. BioPlastic is derived from biomass, which allows a much faster degradation process than regular plastic without the harmful toxins and emissions. Similarly, BioCane is made from byproducts of sugarcane that are responsibly sourced and renewable. Paper board or BioBoard is made from pulp trees retrieved from sustainably managed plantations, which is more cost-effective and environmentally friendly than using excess amounts of wood.
What's the difference between biodegradable, compostable and recyclable?
These terms aren't interchangeable. Biodegradable just means something will eventually break down. Often, these products don't say how long that takes or what's left behind. Compostable means it breaks down into usable soil nutrients within a set timeframe, under set conditions. Our containers are certified to do this within 12 weeks. Recyclable means the material can be reprocessed into something new, depending on your council's facilities. Compostable and recyclable come with a certification behind them; biodegradable on its own doesn't.
Are disposable takeout food containers safe?
Yes, food-grade takeaway containers are designed to be safe for storing and transporting meals. Compostable options meet strict safety standards and are suitable for both hot and cold foods. They help keep meals fresh while reducing the impact of single-use plastics.
Are BioPak takeaway containers oven and freezer-proof?
BioCane products are suitable in the oven for temperatures of 220 degrees for 20 minutes (not for reheating frozen food). BioCane packaging is also freezer friendly but has moisture barrier properties, so it's recommended that its suitability is tested before use.
Are takeaway containers safe to microwave?
Many containers made from paperboard or sugarcane bagasse can be used in the microwave, provided they do not have coatings or lids made from plastics that are not microwave-safe. For instance, BioPak containers are clearly labelled where this is the case, so check the product description or packaging before reheating to make sure the container will not warp or release harmful substances.
How to tell if a takeout container is microwavable?
Look for microwave-safe symbols or information on the packaging. BioPak and our other suppliers label containers as microwave-safe once they've been tested to withstand reheating. If there is no clear indication, it is safer to transfer food into a microwave-safe dish. Avoid microwaving containers with metallic elements or lids not marked as microwave safe.
Where can I compost these biodegradable food containers?
It depends on the product. Some items are certified for industrial composting only, so they need a commercial facility (via a council organics collection or private composting service), since home bins usually don't get hot enough. Others are certified home compostable and will break down in a standard backyard compost bin. Check the individual product listing for which applies. If composting isn't available near you, most paperboard containers can still go into general kerbside recycling instead.
